Hiatus over

First to-do list of the academic year (non-core tasks in italics):
  • Thesis summary (incorporating: research question, chapter headings)
  • Locate and read relevant volumes by Sartre, Guattari and Melucci
  • Submit consensus article to Ephemera?

It is probably guess-able from the above that the article didn't get into the journal i originally sent it to. They did, however, give some suggestions about other journals where it might be more appropriate.

A weight lifts from my mind, for now

Well, my dissertation is not only finished but also printed, with all the different bits attatched, and ready for binding.
I'm pretty happy with it - and a bit freaked out about that. It should have been more stressful. These things, say the mindset i've built up over the last few years, need some pain (not to mention sweat, blood and vomit) in order to be any good. On the other hand, all feedback i've had about it has been positive, and reasons for lack of stress include prior knowledge of the subject at hand and having started work on it quite early. So hopefully the fault is with my mindset and its slightly masochistic work ethic rather than with my actual work!
Anyway, i'm happy to have it done.

picture this

Trying to find a cover photo. Been combing the Indymedia photo library but nothing has jumped out at me. Nevermind, it isn't an essential component. It would just be nice to have.

Maybe henna does make a thinking cap after all

Done today:
  • Bibliography
  • Put survey data and observation notes into form where they can be used as appendices
So feeling pretty chilled. Might put some more on Stirling into the chapter on mobilisation, since i'm a bit short on the word count. Don't desperately need to though.

Concluded and drafted

Wrote my conclusion, did some minor edits and pasted the whole thing into a single document. That's the real work done, i guess. That feels weird.

Still to do:
  • Add Holloway page numbers
  • Bibliography
  • (nice picture for cover?)
  • Survey data for appendix
  • Binding
But i guess that can wait til after the weekend now.

Nice surprise

A bit of progress with my dissertation - helped along enormously by the fact that less needed doing than previously thought. Bear in mind i haven't touched anything but the last chapter since before Scotland, so the intervening (and very stressful) time period probably built it up in my mind.
Updated to-do list:
  • Conclusion
  • Bibliography
  • Cover page
  • Page numbers (hadn't thought of before)
  • Appendix - neat, updated copy of survey
  • Binding
Probably in that order, although some of the smaller jobs can be done if i have some time but not enoough to do anything big. If you get my drift...
