Tomorrow's tasks, tonight

Editing/completing
  • CV
  • Press release
  • Ethics statement
Starting/creating
  • Mindmap (for problem-solving)
  • Reports - or at least plan what to write them on
Possible reports
  • One on research skills
  • Library usage and bibliography (include word processing here?)
I've a feeling there should be other reports, but i think the above is probably enough for one day's jobs anyway.

Achieving objectives

Made a to-do list this morning, and did everything on it, which is cool if slightly unusual.
  • FINALLY worked out how to print a whole bibliography on Endnote. (go to 'edit' and 'select all'. It prints the selected reference, so you have to get them all selected
  • Printed another copy of my article, to go in the portfolio
  • Completed the 'meeting your supervisor' section of the portfolio.
  • Did the necessary photocopying and book-borrowing at the library.

Also sent off for (and received) an application form for a telephone fundraiser job. Two evenings a week phoning alumni asking them to donate money to the university, and earning nearly six pounds an hour in the process.

so near yet so far away

Article written - can't print it, as this computer rather bizarrely prints not to a printer but to a 'microsoft office document image writer'. Which is totally not what you need when you want to print five copies of an article, a chapter of your dissertation and part of the Greyhound Action website. Anyway, the article is written, which is the main thing and the point of this post.

Slowly ethnographing

Doesn't feel like i've done much, but the ethnographic article is two-thirds through. The not-done bit is pretty important though! Still, only spadework of typing left to do, and i think i've done an impressive amount given that i'm working on a computer other than my own and using a version of Word that's different from mine. (and downloading work from email - sending it to myself was a Plan B in case the memory stick didn't work here, and it didn't.)

posting from workshop

Evidence to create/collect/print:

  • Printout from this blog
  • Mindmap (computer generated)
  • Endnote version of bibliography
  • Paper version of Warwick OHPs - also PPoint slides from training workshop
  • CVs (before and after)
  • Ethics statement

Evidence i've got to hand:

  • Library and electronic journals search printout
  • Survey printout

Evidence that very much needs creating:

  • Ethnography (ie, get into gear and finish writing it!)

training day

Portfolio workshop this morning, spent the time filling in the little grids in the portfolio and working out where evidence needs to go. I feel better having made a bit of progress. Apparently this blog is fine as evidence of time management.

update

Did a little more to the ethnography.
Wondering if printouts from this blog could go in the portfolio under time management.

Done something

My survey!!
Have asked both supervisors for advice on how to make it more effective. (although there is a limit to this, when only ten questions are allowed. if it turns out to be useful i might start forking over the tenner a year for unlimited questions and responses)

a little goes a long way

Have done a bit of the ethnography, enough to reassure myself that it is going to happen. That's always a good thing, right?

Am starting to create a survey on SurveyMonkey for a bit of preliminary data collection. If nothing else it will be another thing for the portfolio, but i'm hoping it will be more than that. Trying to figure out the questions now. That is not as easy as it looks, and i'll have to scrounge around for advice.

Starting to work again... putting it off...

RIP Endpage? In the unlikely event that anyone is reading this and can help host the file, get in touch with them please!

In case anyone wants to submit anything to Ephemera (cough), here's the information on what they want and here's the goss on how to submit it. They don't charge you a rip-off fee just to send them stuff!

Right, going to go through ethno notes, such as they are. Hold me to that, please.
